Is Blizzard Going to Resurrect PC Gaming?

How about that title for a Blog? Did it catch your eye? Blizzard, the company that brought us classic PC games like Warcraft and Starcraft and Diablo, plus the immensely successful cultural phenomenon WORLD OF WARCRAFT, are slated to bring long awaited sequels back to gamers in the next two years. The first will be the long awaited Starcraft sequel... Starcraft 2. For those of you not in the know, Star Craft remains as one of the pivotal Real Time Strategy games in terms of the international scene. This dang thing almost became South Korea's national sport. The new version looks mostly like a spiffed up version of Number 1, but to be honest, that's all it needs to be. It doesn't need to be anything else but the best RTS ever.

The other long awaited sequel will be Diablo 3. Blizzard is poised to announce it at a special invitation only event this Saturday. Diablo 1 and 2 were bench marks in Role Playing Games mixing a more third person action adventure style to the traditional RPG. The result was all the customizable features of an RPG mixed in with high speed action. I remember a long spring in 2001, where I nearly lost my right index finger from all the clicking. No one for sure knows what Diablo 3 will look like. Rumors persist it may be another MMO like World of WarCraft. Die Hard fans are just hoping to get what they had before.

Either way, it looks like I will be determining if I should resurrect my PC for these games. I like many gamers have shifted more towards the spectrum of console game in the past few years, because PC games started going through a very disturbing trend. To play the latest games, one had to update video cards, hardware, etc. almost every six months. When the Xbox came out with great quality games with more depth than the traditional console games offered, I pretty much left my PC alone outside of internet surfing. However, with my favorite game developer putting out my favorite PC game sequels, I find myself tempted to go back to the PC gaming world for these two titles.

I had a discussion with a friend of mine recently. It was about the Xbox 360. I wondered, why couldn't I play PC games on the Xbox 360, if it was made by the PC gamer gurus of the universe. We chalked it up to coding and hardware, but in reality, why couldn't I have a keyboard and mouse to simulate the control of a PC game for the 360??? Has anyone even thought of this? It could finally take the console and transcend the joystick. Just a thought.
